Colleen BrosnanContributorBalancing the needs of your children, spouse and extended family is challenging no matter your family’s situation.
As a parent of three elementary school-aged children, two of which are
on the autism spectrum, Colleen is on the front lines of this struggle
– a struggle that is made more intense because of her children’s
special needs.
She believes that her wonderful family and friends have
made this interesting journey far easier.
In addition to writing, Colleen is active in
her elementary school’s PTA executive board with her role as SEPTA
(Special Education PTA) representative for the school. She
helped initiate a pilot program which included support for special
needs children in after school PTA-sponsored enrichment activities. Her
faith is also important to her and she is part of a committee in her
church which helps facilitate the inclusion of special needs children
and their families within St Pius X’s parish life. She also plays an
active role in The Kennedy Center’s Autism Project’s major fundraiser,
Magic Moments.
She is currently working on a book which will help guide
parents of special needs children, particularly those on the autism
spectrum, during the first year after diagnosis.
An avid reader and gardener, Colleen lives
with her husband Chris and their three children in Connecticut.
