ASK SPECIAL PARENTS
HELP! My baby is in the hospital and the Dr. said he can come home soon if I can find nursing. I live in Hopkinsville, KY., and everyone we contacted said they don’t do Pediatrics. They either won’t work with a baby on a “vent” and with a “trach”, or they can’t work in our county?

The case management at the hospital cannot discharge you without making sure the home services the doctor orders are set up. If they sent you home without the proper follow up care they could be liable. Speak to the discharge planners, social worker, etc… Also speak to your insurance company as they can help find a provider or arrange for a non-network provider if no providers are available. Do not let them send you home without everything set up! I work in pediatrics and they can’t just push you out the door.
