Behind the Cover Story: September/October “Back to School” Edition
When I was contacted by Parenting Special Needs Magazine to photograph the cover of their September/October “Back to School” Edition, I started thinking about the image I would create and submit. As a photographer who specializes in photographing Children with Special Needs, I was very excited about this assignment. One thing I love to do is create a fun environment for the children’s sessions; it helps them to act more like themselves and not feel that they must “say cheese for the photographer”.
I put out a “model call”, but almost as soon as I did, Wade’s sweet little face came to my mind, and he became the inspiration for the theme. Wade wears cute, round, wire-rimmed glasses. As I pictured his face, I immediately saw a session with the theme, Back to School- Vintage Style. I knew he would be perfect! I searched for the exact clothes to fit my vision and contacted the owners of a little schoolhouse that is styled to look as if it is set in the 1900’s. This provided the ideal environment for my Vintage, Back to School Session (for more information on the schoolhouse, please visit: The Bell School). Wade had a blast dressing up in the old fashioned clothes! He was full of smiles as he held old books, took bites out of an apple, and sat at the old desks writing his name on a slate.
All children will read and learn history as they go back to school this fall, but Wade got to experience it!
