Cooking With Kids: Veggie Sunshine
Veggie Sunshine
INGREDIENTS
1 Carrot
1 Celery stick
Approx: 15 golden Raisins
Dip of choice: Ranch, almond butter, peanut butter, sour cream and onion
INSTRUCTIONS
Parent: Prepare the flowers by using the tip of a sharp knife and cut out 5 small triangles, along the whole length of the carrot, all around the carrot (approx. 4-5). Then cut the carrot into 1 inch pieces to make the head of the flower
Parent: Cut the celery in half. With one half you will cut strands (this will become the stems). With the other half of the celery, you will cut that again in half and cut out very slim strands for what will be the grass. Arrange all the parts on a plate and begin assembling with your kiddo.
Kiddo: Create your flowers and don’t forget to add the sun in the sky using the raisins. Use the image for guidance.
LANGUAGE TIME
Talk about what is needed to help a plant grow: water, sun light, soil. Perhaps, you can talk about building your own little garden or planting a flower in a pot and the steps needed to make that happen. Who knows, you may start with creating your pretend garden and end up creating a real one in the backyard.
