Healthy Caramel Spread (Caramel Apple Spread)
Healthy Caramel Apple Spread
Fall is in the air and that means apple season… or Chocolate Caramel Apple Season.
Who doesn’t like Chocolate Caramel apples, but who has time to make them? And who wants their children eating all that processed sugar? Well we’ve created a No Cooking Easy-Semi Healthy Chocolate Caramel Apple Spread that can be made easily and quickly, even as an after school treat.
Prep time: 10 Minutes
Makes Approximately 1 Cup of Caramel Sauce
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Pre-Soaked Dates (drained)
- 3 Tbsp Organic Coconut Palm Sugar (mixed with 3/4 tbsp of water, to covert coconut palm sugar to liquid). We heated ours for 30 seconds in the microwave.
- 1/2 Tsp lemon juice (a squeeze of a 1/8 lemon wedge to preserve freshness)
- 2 Tbsp Almond Butter
- 1/2 Tsp Sea Salt
- 2 Tbsp Coconut Oil
- 1 1/2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
Directions:
Place all ingredients into your food processor and blend until smooth. Remember to stop to scrape down the sides. Keep processing until it looks like caramel.
If you are serving this as a caramel apple spread, place dip in a small bowl alongside apple and pear slices.
Making a batch and then keeping in the fridge makes it really convenient. It will keep for about 2-3 weeks in the fridge. Be sure to date your container as to when you made it so you know the approx. expiration date. I use masking take and a black Sharpie.
Enjoy!
Caramel Apple Instructions:
- Place your “handle” stick into each apple.
- Using a spoon, scoop the caramel sauce over each apple.
- Decorate with nut pieces, if you desire.
- Place coated apple on a plate and refrigerate for a couple minutes.
- Remove from refrigerator, serve and enjoy!
- Place apple upside down on a flat surface and push stick into the center.
- Using a spoon, scoop the caramel sauce over each apple, or use your hands, if necessary, to get it to stick over the entire surface of the apple.
- Decorate with topping such as: nuts, chocolate chips, cacao nibs, coconut or any topping you like.
- Place coated apple on a plate and refrigerate for a couple minutes.
- Remove from refrigerator, serve and enjoy
DATES: Cover dates with water and soak them over night or until liquid is absorbed.
Alternatively, you could heat water for 2 minutes in microwave and pour over dates and let soak for several minutes. You don’t want to cook the dates or even heat them up. You only want to get them nice and soft.
