Join us Today for “Changing Places Awareness Day”
Today is “Changing Places Awareness Day” in Britain.
Changing Places was established in 2005. Their Campaign was started to make people aware of the need for certain additions that needed to be made to accessible restroom for people with disabilities. They advocate for adult changing tables and Hoyer lifts to be added to accessible restrooms. Thanks to their efforts and continued perseverance, there are now Changing Places restrooms across the United Kingdom, Australia, Spain, Portugal and Canada.
NOW, these are available in the United States. In November of last year, I started Universal Changing Places in Florida. I was inspired by Changing Places UK and knew the need first hand. We are advocating just for a Height Adjustable, Adult Changing Tables to be added to Family Restrooms in Public Venues.
I have a son who is non-ambulatory and we are faced with these difficulties every time we go out. No one should ever be forced to change a loved one on a public restroom floor. Universal Changing Places is a grass roots campaign to make people aware of this VERY important issue. Accessible Restrooms that we have now are not ACCESSIBLE for EVERYONE!! This must be CHANGED.
Please visit our website to learn more about this issue and how you can HELP! You can make a difference by starting a campaign in your county. Our UNITED VOICES will be heard!
