Kid Books: The Princess Panda Tea Party: A Cerebral Palsy Princess Tale
The Princess Panda Tea Party: A Cerebral Palsy Princess Tale is a sweet story of a young girl with Cerebral Palsy, who fulfills her dream of winning a scholarship despite her physical limitations. Michelle lives in an orphanage with many other girls who are unkind to her, which makes her feel isolated and dis-empowered. One night when Michelle feels especially sad, her toy Panda Bear Princess turns into a real princess. The Panda Bear Princess whisks her away to a castle where she teaches her how to be win the scholarship that will change her life. In this book, Michelle learns how to stand up for herself, be confident about her abilities and empower herself with the help of Panda Bear Princess.
I enjoyed the rich language that is used throughout the book. Important vocabulary such as โaccessibleโ, โscholarshipโ, โextraordinaryโ, โtherapeuticโ are used fluently throughout the story. Discussing and defining these complex words can help build expand your childโs vocabulary. I also liked the practice of affirmations that Panda Bear Princess taught Michelle to boost her confidence.
The Princess Panda Tea Party is a wonderful book for a child with a disability, but also excellent to help build awareness within a classroom, community, etc.
