Ask Special Parents: Speech Strategies
Speech Strategies
I need some help with a 5 year old with echolalia- it’s getting better but I need some more strategies! Before her speech was unintelligible or straight from the tv. Now, it’s still TV stuff “now on dvd, Disney Junior….” or her own made up stories. Any advice? Cheryl Yaron.

Krystal Espinosa shared this- Have her around you when you’re doing simple things like pouring a glass of juice, making a sandwich, etc… Talk about what you are doing so she starts to repeat in context. This helped my 8 year old and while he still repeats songs and TV, he is using appropriate words when he wants food, help, etc.
