I am proof that it is possible, I found the love of my life and he loves my child with special needs, and teaches her new things every day!

Kelly, Your article suggests that having a special needs child is not very relevant to whether or not romantic love is something to be found. So I would like to pose a question that you really did not pose to all of those experts: Would you, personally, be interested in a man who had a special needs child living with him?

Is there such a thing? I get into a relationship and then hear the same story about her not comfortable or didnt realize they couldn’t handle it, or better yet…find another way out just to not have to admit that my daughter is basically the issue

My disabled daughter is turning 18 next month. I’m 38 and have never married. I’ve been single all of her life. No guy has taken me seriously as far as relationships go. Some of them wouldn’t even meet my daughter. I know it’s because of her. I can understand but at the same time it has been incredibly lonely. I ended up in an abusive relationship at one point too that really messed me up and I was forcibly committed for suicidal behavior and put on antidepressants. Unless you are incredibly lucky or just have no standards at all, it’s almost impossible to find love as a single parent of a disabled child.
