Cooking with Kids: Strawberry Heads
Foodie Fun for Kids: Encouraging Speech & Creating Yum! Strawberry Heads
Ingredients:
- Organic Strawberries (I always try to go organic, if possible)
- Mini Chocolate Chips
- Cake Frosting in a can (helps with the decoration)
Strawberry Heads Instructions:
Parent: Prep the strawberries by cutting the strawberry horizontally, halfway up, and then from the middle (perpendicularly) down to remove the small piece of strawberry. Please refer to the image for assistance.
Kiddo: Decorate your smiley faces. First, make the eyes any size you want with the frosting.
Then, add the chocolate chips in the center for the pupils. You don’t have to stop there; you can add a mustache and create a whole family of “strawberry heads.” Use your imagination and go crazy!
Language Time:
This is a great time to bring up the color red!
It’s summertime, and it is always good to use any opportunity to review concepts, colors, shapes, and so on.
Ask your kiddo what color this fruit is and if he/she can name 5 other fruits that are the same color.
You can also create a game around the house and see who can find 5 things around the house that are red first, and the winner can have the first strawberry head.
When in the car, see how many things you can point out that are red. Make this a RED day!
Grab some magazines or flyers, or search the internet for red images to print, cut out, and make a collage.
The games/activities are endless!
Enjoy.
