Robin DeVoe
“Everyday Hero” for the March/April Issue 2011
IT’S A BIRD…IT’S A PLANE…IT’S, IT’S, IT’S Robin DeVoe!
I would like to nominate RobinDeVoe, for the Everyday Heroes section of your magazine.
A hero is someone distinguished by exceptional courage, nobility and strength…all of these qualities Robin DeVoe possesses, and then some. Robin is new to the TOPS soccer program this year and, at first, did not know what to expect by being paired with such a young, special needs player. Daniel is a rambunctious 5 year old boy and Robin and he “clicked” instantly. Robin says the most rewarding part about being a “buddy” to Daniel is “the anticipation throughout the week of knowing I get to see Daniel. Also, knowing that I am actually becoming a better person because of him and I, too, am helping him. The bond we have is strengthened whenever we are together.” Robin is an everyday hero in my eyes because she takes the time out of her busy high school schedule to play with Daniel. Robin is a patient, benevolent and devoted soul. She has selfless love for Daniel and even calls him “the brother she never had.” It is truly amazing watching her interact with Daniel out on the field. She never leaves his side. She claims “Daniel has opened my eyes to a world I never even knew existed.” Robin’s love and dedication to Daniel and TOPS makes her an everyday hero.
