Everybody’s Cheering
Sun Up Center in Vero Beach, Florida, held its first Cheerleading Clinic. The clinic was organized by Tina Barrett and Leila Henson (coaches) along with their cheerleading squad from Gifford Middle School. Eight “special” girls were invited to learn basic skills, cheers, a dance routine and have FUN! The week-long clinic ended with a performance for family members and friends. As smiles and pride spread, it was hard not to let the tears flow. Congratulations to all involved. Los Angeles Sprout Film Festival Join in a celebration of films by and starring people with autism, developmental disabilities and their families at the Los Angeles Sprout Film Festival charity event on July 11 at the Skirball Cultural Center. This is a great family day event. Enjoy a 2 hour movie and talk with local advocacy leaders. There is also a complimentary reception. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to Achievable Foundation.
SPARC 2010 STAND-Pinellas County Accessing Resources Conference
September 11, 2010 -This educational conference’s goal is to provide parents, teachers, therapists and other professionals with resources that will help their children make achievements in all aspects of life. While we focus on children with special needs, we believe these resources are just as valuable to any child.

New Jersey Doctor Who Successfully Treats “Nervous Twitches”
Dr.Ira Klemons, D.D.S., Ph.D., Director of The Center for Head and Facial Movement Disorders, is a New Jersey doctor who successfully treats “nervous twitches” and Tourettes Syndrome without surgery or drugs. Thousands of patients have come to Dr. Klemons for the treatment of pain or uncontrollable twitches or tics. He has been successfully treating patients from around the world for these and related conditions for over 30 years.

New study suggests otherwise “Well, it’s only ADHD so it’s not such a big deal.” ” As a doctor that treats learning disabilities as well as ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorders, it is common to hear parents make statements such as this”, says Dr. Nelson Mane’. “However, the latest statistics suggest that 10% of school age children have ADHD, and have higher substance abuse rates, incarceration rates and pregnancy rates.” A new study published, June of 2010 suggests that late adolescent teen girls have more issues with depression and more dysfunction with the relationships with their mothers and boyfriends.
